Professional Summary
Peel Technologies
Director – OEM Engineering, July 2013 – Present
The Peel Smart Remote application, is hardware technology and mobile application that is integrated into Android Mobile phones from Samsung, LG, HTC, Xiaomi, and many more OEM’s and ODM’s. It is supported with cloud infrastructure that supports users in over 190 countries. We have shipped in over 650 Million android phones, and get a daily install of 200K users organically.
I manage the Peel Smart Remote application deployment. There are three areas that I work in…
- Working with Android Phone OEM’s to integrate the Hardware solution, and Peel smart remote application. My team interfaces with the OEM for Device QA, Application QA and regular updates to the application.
- Manage the Peel Smart Remote deployment worldwide, this includes the cloud infrastructure which supports 4 AWS regions and 190+ countries, getting content from 7 partners for the Electronic Program Guide for the remote (90 countries), acquire and add remote controls (IR and IP) to our database (400,000+ remotes)
- Integrate third party SDK’s for non-ad revenue. We gather, store, secure, and license data to third parties. This include meeting GDPR and CCPA guidelines.
Achievements
- Getting the peel application preloaded on 6 samsung flagship phones. The Peel Smart Remote application has been pre-loaded in over half a billion mobile phones and tablets.
- Deploying a non-ad monetization approach that is expanding our revenue streams with revenues up to $10 Million per year.
- I am the architect of Peel’s patented “NoChip” IR remote control hardware technology that is shipping in mobile phones and tablet’s from Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, and many more OEM’s. SmartIR (NoChip) reduced the cost of adding IR for a very large OEM from $1+ to less than 15 cents with savings of over $40 million on one flagship phone.
- I worked out an IP remote strategy supporting phones that do have have an Infrared remote capability. The IP remote app presently gets over 200k daily downloads.
- I designed and deployed auto-setup, a method to detect devices on Wifi and Bluetooth and automatically setup the Peel Smart Remote application with IR devices. Setup completion rates have risen to over 85% of pre-installed phones, with DAU and effectively revenue going up significantly.
- Worked out partnerships with OSRAM, Everlight, and Lumiled’s to build “FlashIR”, an integrated Flash and IR LED module to add IR remote control to a mobile phone, with no changes required to the phones industrial design.
- I work with third party device companies like Philip’s, LG’s IOT group, Bluetooth IR blaster manufacturers and phone battery case manufacturers to go after the iPhone market.
- Multiple R&D Initiatives including designing a low cost Heart Rate Monitor module for mobile phones, Voice driven remote controls, Android P specific bluetooth remote controls.
I use Agile to manage the product backlog, release planning, bug tracking, testing automation and continuous integration. I work with Mobile app and Cloud teams based in US, India and China. I travel to Korea, China and Taiwan to meet large OEM’s, ODM’s and Design houses.
Mistral Solutions Inc.

I was the head of the Product Engineering Services team at Mistral. I worked with Silicon Partners, Customers, ODM’s, and Design houses, delivering Embedded engineering services for customers in Consumer, Medical and Industrial segments. Some highlights include…
- Moved Mistral from a manpower/staffing base to value added design services. Optimized our offerings to focus on reference designs, and long range partnerships. Product and Engineering services revenue grew to $8 Million.
- Setup long-term relationships with Silicon Partners (Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Analog Devices, Cambridge Silicon, Sirf) that continue today and are the primary route for new business at Mistral.
- Worked with Texas Instruments to build their official development platform for the OMAP 2, OMAP 3, DM37x, DM35x processors. These became lead magnets for Mistral’s product design services business. Mistral continues to use the business model that I setup.
- Setup partnership with Texas instruments for their Power management and Audio Codec business. Mistral was the customer facing/on-site engineering support (in China, Korea and Taiwan) for Mobile phone customer’s that were integrating the codec into their mobile phone and tablet designs.
- Won design services business with companies like Amazon (Kindle), Motorola (HMC1), Thales (Airline seat back entertainment systems) and many more based.
- Did pioneering work in the head mounted computing, and augmented reality. Customer designs include, Golden-I from Kopin, HMC from Motorola, SmartGlasses from Osterhout Design Group (ODG) and more.
- I was the technical evangelist for Mistral’s products and services; I travelled extensively, speaking regularly at industry conferences and events, and visiting partners, suppliers and customers.
