The internet is for everyone

A really cool looking corvette (http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/latest-reviews/ratings-review-2016-chevrolet-corvette-stingray-article-1.2773075) passed me on the way to work this morning. A great looking car with a really odd number plate, “RFC3271”.

I have done quite a bit of work in the past with the IETF, having worked on the RTP, SPI, MGCP, MEGACO, and RTSP protocol implementations. And all these protocol’s had a number RFC2543, RFC3261 (that’s SIP an important Voice over IP protocol for the uninitiated). So seeing RFC3271 on the car number plate triggered memories of many years ago…

Turns out RFC3271 is a valid RFC https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3271.txt and stands for “The internet is for everyone”.

Brought a smile to my face. Smile stayed on the rest of my drive…

Only a geek who is working on internet protocols would even understand what that numberplate means. And one hell of a geek would put that on his corvette.

Edit 1: Since I posted this last year, the owner of the car saw my post and sent me a picture of the car. Thanks Brian M. Replaced the picture I had with the real thing.

Edit 2: My son Saket (god of all things car in my household), pointed out that this is a Corvette C7 Z06 Cheverolet Corvette (C7)
