The Krazzy Martians at the Regionals

Had an exciting day at the FLL Regional competition yesterday. I coach a team of 11-14 year olds who call themselves the Krazzy Martians. The objective of FLL is to get children interested in science under the guise of a robotics competition.

All teams are given a series of tasks, and they have two and a half minutes for their robot to complete as many of those tasks as possible. In the seven month season the “krazzy’s” went through robot design, construction, building a robust robot, trying to do multiple tasks in one run, programming, testing, designing for redundancy…a lot.

The last seven months have been tough. As a parent I want the children to win, as their coach I had to make sure that they learned, and worked, and played, and had fun. Winning would have been nice, but the journey was fun.

As a coach, as a parent nothing felt better than saket telling me on the drive home that next time we will do better. Already planning for the next season that is 6 months away…Makes me feel like I won!
